The 41st Annual Lowe’s Hyack Festival Week runs from May 18 to 26, 2012. Opening Ceremonies will feature a major fireworks display to kick start a week of multicultural and inter-generational activities for children, youth, adults and seniors!

The River Market boardwalk will provide an outstanding view of the show!

Downtown New West BIA’s Annual DiverseCity festival will explode onto the Quay Boardwalk on Saturday, May 19th at 12noon with sights, sounds, smells and tastes from all over the world. DiverseCity embraces everyone, and therefore is the ultimate celebration of community.

With cultural groups from all over the globe participating you can expect live entertainment, dance lessons, tasty treats, interactive activities for the kids, and fun for the whole family. Arts & Crafts, a film festival, art exhibition, giveaways, contests, and a few surprises too….

Visit us inside River Market to continue celebrating our diverse cultures!  Enter our contest to win a gorgeous Donald’s gift basket full of tasty treats from around the world! Come and stretch your legs with River Market staff  by having a brisk walk along the boardwalk! Meet up in the lower level Food Hall kiosk at 10am (weather permitting).

Listen hear Ladies & Fellas: it’s time to dust off those dancing shoes and get ready to jive on the dance floor!

On Friday May 25th, River Market is hosting its inaugural Friday Night Social in partnership with the creative forces behind In the House Festival.

Prohibition will be in full swing this evening as we are whisked away to the roaring 20′s for fine foods and not so dirty dancing. For your listening pleasure, we’ve invited a Live Jukebox DJ and the fabulous Jen Hodge All Star Trio live band.

Doors open at 6:00pm and dance lessons begin promptly at 7:00pm. Beginners are most welcome and will have plenty of time to perfect that swing since we’ll be open for business until 10:00pm! To purchase your tickets* in advance click here. Tickets are available at the door but in limited quantities. Don’t miss out and purchase yours in advance!

Join River Market and our partners Fraser River Bike Tours & Rentals and Modo as we host our very first Bicycle Show & Shine event!

Do you have a bicycle you’d like to show off? We’d love to see it! Sign up today to take part in the “Show” part of the Show & Shine and you could win prizes including $100 car sharing credits from Modo, gifts from Cap’s Bicycle, River Market and Green Zebra Guides! You can also sign up your bike the day of the event!

Cap’s Bicycles will also be collecting bikes to send to Africa, please bring any bikes you’d like to donate and they will be happy to send them to those in need on your behalf.

New West Artists Group is pleased to announce their art exhibit, ‘Visual Verse,’ in which 40 poems have been interpreted visually.
