Often people discover The Wylde Wood Collective by accident, our shop tucked as we are in the furthest corner on the upper level of River Market in New Westminster. Others discover us by word of mouth. On the street, some brave and curious souls will ask us where we are going or where we have been, dressed as we are in anything from an Edwardian ensemble, to the gown of a Medieval lady, to a witch outfit complete with pointy hat and red shoes. We are also found on social media, either ours or that of one of our more than 40 Canadian artists and authors who work in fantasy and whose work you can purchase at our store.
The Wylde Wood Collective is home to the fantastic in roughly 200 square feet of tiny Tardis-like shop. In it you will discover worlds within worlds, some familiar and others not. Once there you will always meet at least one of our artists, craftspeople, or authors. Sometimes we will be working on our art, others we will be chatting about upcoming events with other creatives. The Wylde Wood is part gallery, giftshop, costume shop and bookstore but more than that it is an experience. A place to come when you need a lift out of the doldrums of everyday life. It is also where many artists of the collective frequently come to teach and encourage others to explore their creativity.
Five times a year the Wylde Wood themes its offerings and decor to the season. The autumnal equinox is fast approaching and the Fall Reveal will take place Saturday, September 21st. This season, The Wood is featuring the work of Monika So of Wicked Aviary. Monika is a papier-mâché artist who makes wearable horns, antlers, and wings. So come on down, try some on, and tread where the faye reside. The theme for this fall is Going On An Adventure. The Wylde Wood will feature original paintings by Lisa LaRose, and Melissa Mary Duncan, a new metallic print by Tony Rodriguez, the perfect outfit for adventuring by Janice Murphy of My Tell Tale Heart, new jewellery offerings by Tracey Ernst of Through The Clockwork Door, sacred vessels and beads by potter Ilena Lee Cramer, leatherwork by Karl Reifenstein of Hussar Armoury and so much more. We will also be getting bats, owls, crows, skeletons, and all manner of spooky delights as we head towards Halloween…
