ONE Prize: New West residents to launch three wonderful projects for New West
(New Westminster, BC) June 5, 2018 —
Donald’s Market and River Market are pleased to announce this year’s ONE Prize winners.
Funded by Donald Market’s Goodness Reward members (NW), the ONE Prize is a community fund just for New Westminster. The grocery store contributes 1% of every dollar spent by the Goodness Rewards members towards the fund, and this year, the fund has $6000 in prize money. “It’s proof that a simple idea can have a positive impact,” says Donald’s Market’s general manager Linda Chen. “The ONE Prize is a great way to support homegrown initiatives, and help bring them to fruition. These local projects make the place where we work and live better.”
10 outstanding projects were submitted to ONE Prize this year, and a jury of 3 from the local community along with a Donald’s Market staff member shortlisted the projects for voting. The New West Goodness Rewards members voted for the following projects. Each project will receive a grant of $2000 to bring their idea to life.
Art Cafe Social Enterprise: Connecting the Arts with the community and removing barriers to employment one coffee at a time.
Integrating ESL Seniors in Our Community: Newcomer seniors, join our English classes to build confidence, learn about community services, and fun opportunities in New West.
Library on the River: Make literature personal. Turn your personal bookshelf into a community library.
“This is ONE Prize’s sixth year in the running,” says River Market’s ONE Prize lead, Leslie Shieh. “We’ve been greatly impressed by the intent behind each proposal. We congratulate all the applicants and thank them for their commitment to contribute to the New West community.”
To contribute to the ONE Prize fund, shoppers can sign up for their Goodness Reward key tag at the Donald’s Market checkout counter at River Market.
