It’s summer—the best time to get into a flurry of playful, inventive, and creative activity.
As adults, we’re usually thinking about tasks and end goals and forget the pleasures of including play in our everyday life. We don’t set aside time for activities that can be creatively satisfying and aren’t ‘actual work.’ Too often, our personal and professional responsibilities get in the way. But drizzling your daily timetable with a little bit of artistic experimentation can rejuvenate the mind.
Together with our shops, we at River Market are revisiting the idea of play! Yes, Summer of Play is back again! This year, we’re featuring the Tiny Crafts edition—a series of fun, short, free creative crafts you can do again and again throughout the summer. Each tiny craft can be done in 15 minutes or less and is available whenever the shop offering it is open.
Tiny Crafts lets you experiment with yarn, colour, scent, paper, words and more. As you wander around the market, give yourself a few moments to have some creative fun. Play and immerse yourself in the process of making. If you’ve always wanted to knit, make a pom-pom. If you’re wondering what fairies are like, write them a letter. If you miss the old days, colour a postcard. Make a soap with a scent you like. Play with a button-making machine. Or if words are your thing, pen down a few mini poems. Whatever your craft of choice (and we recommend doing all of them) these simple activities will bring a smile to your face and a spring to your step.
To find out where it’s happening, look for signs of play at the market. The inviting beach ball will guide you to shops featuring tiny crafts. Drop in, come with friends and family. You might just discover new things you may love.
