River Market is excited to announce the recipients of this year’s ONE Prize.
Thanks to all ONE members New Westminster will get three homegrown community projects this year. When ONE members shop at Donald’s, the grocery store contributes 1% of every dollar they spend to the community fund. This year, the fund grew to $6,000 in prize money.
Nineteen outstanding projects were submitted to ONE Prize. A jury narrowed the field and ONE members voted for the winners.
The three projects that are awarded $2000 each are:
Hammer and Saw: Youth Building Community is an organization, founded by two technical education teachers, that are committed to empowering youth through skills training and community engagement. Ten New Westminster youth will design and build a project that they identify as a community need.
Seniors Out N’ About is a program by the Seniors Services Society that prevents senior isolation in our community through organized outings.
Seniors to the Market Shuttle Program, proposed by the Royal City Farmers Market, will provide seniors door to door services to the Farmer’s Market to engage with local farmers and to shop for local produce.
